Here is a bright thought to start the week with:
ALONE in the past received a call from a concerned neighbour who drew our attention to the case of an older lady who had been found lying on the floor for a period of time, alone and unable to get herself assistance.
The neighbour linked in with ALONE’s Support Coordinators and relevant community supports to help her. Aged 81 this lady was helped by the vigilance of her neighbours who also helped the ALONE team to source her a new cooker and extra heating appliances.
This case highlights the importance of neighbours in the community who are the eyes and ears for vulnerable older people who need our support to live independently. In this case her neighbour continues to check in with this older lady with a daily visit or phone call. Both this older lady and her neighbour know they can continue to avail of ALONE’s services whenever needed.
