‘Search That Building’ was the name given to a street campaign launched by a small number of ALONE volunteers in May 1978. The goal of the campaign was to locate isolated older people left behind by the ‘flight to the suburbs’ of younger families. Many people were contacted in wretched conditions, bullied by landlords or intimdated by speculators who wanted to rebuild properties or replace flats and houses with high-rent quick turnover bedsitters.
