A general election is a vote by the people of Ireland to decide who will represent them in the Dáil (Ireland’s lower house of parliament). Ireland is a parliamentary democracy which means that the Irish public directly elect TDs to represent them.

In order to vote you must be eligible and included on the electoral register for the area in which you live.

- If your name and address are correct on the register and you are eligible to vote at upcoming polls you will be able to do so
- If you have changed your name and/or address, complete the online application to update your details
- Add your PPSN and DOB to confirm your details and assist your local authority in the broader electoral register data quality project – more information
- You will need your PPSN and Eircode to use this site
- If you are 16 or 17 you can pre-register and your name will be added to the register when you turn 18
- To register or update your details on a paper form (without PPSN)
- To update your citizenship
- To apply for a special or postal vote (conditions apply)
