ALONE Submission to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection 2025
ALONE was invited to present to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection to provide insight into our Pre-Budget 2026 asks. Specifically, ALONE’s asks included:
- Increase the state pension by at least €22
- Increase the Fuel Allowance of at least €20
- Increase the Living Alone Allowance by at least €10
- Increase the Telephone Support Allowance by at least €10 per week and expanding to cover internet costs
- Simplify the Application Process
In a follow-up written submission, ALONE addressed some key concerns brought up by members that we did not get the time to address, namely the impact of poverty and increased energy costs on older people, the current status of the commitment to benchmark the state pension, and the impact that falling home ownership rates will have on older people.
