ALONE annual reports provide an overview of the organisation’s activities each year. They report on the number of people supported and how ALONE is progressing towards its strategic goals and aim to support older people to live and age independently at home. These reports provide detailed insights into the number of individuals ALONE has supported each year, illustrating the impact and reach of their services. They also offer transparency regarding the organisation’s progress toward its strategic goals, showcasing the effectiveness of their programmes and initiatives. These reports play an important role in communicating ALONE’s values and mission to stakeholders, including policymakers, volunteers, and the wider community. Overall, ALONE’s annual reports are vital tools for reflecting on past achievements, guiding future strategies, and reinforcing their commitment to enhancing the quality of life for older people across Ireland.
2016 saw the development of a number of new initiatives along with the evaluation of key components of the services ALONE provides. We
continued to keep the Board and organisation united and focused through commissioning a new Scheme of Incorporation. We appreciated the total involvement and commitment of new Board attendees, pending their formal appointment to the Board. In 2016, 46,800 hours of support were provided with volunteers at an estimated €702,000 value. There was an increase of over 350 volunteers and 4,500 older people were supported by befriending services in Ireland. There were 20 staff and 10 interns working for ALONE in 2016, with 937 older people helped to live as independently as possible at home. 108 older people supported and housed by ALONE, with 73% being referred from homeless services in Dublin.
