ALONE annual reports provide an overview of the organisation’s activities each year. They report on the number of people supported and how ALONE is progressing towards its strategic goals and aim to support older people to live and age independently at home. These reports provide detailed insights into the number of individuals ALONE has supported each year, illustrating the impact and reach of their services. They also offer transparency regarding the organisation’s progress toward its strategic goals, showcasing the effectiveness of their programmes and initiatives. These reports play an important role in communicating ALONE’s values and mission to stakeholders, including policymakers, volunteers, and the wider community. Overall, ALONE’s annual reports are vital tools for reflecting on past achievements, guiding future strategies, and reinforcing their commitment to enhancing the quality of life for older people across Ireland.
In 2017, the 40th year of ALONE, we doubled the number of people supported to 1,903 with almost 700 people receiving support from the Befriending service. There were more than 1100 cases of support coordination, an increase of +80%, and fundraising income increased by 15%. Staff numbers in ALONE increased from 19 to 31, and there were 1,776 calls to our front desk. Over 400 new volunteers were recruited and trained by ALONE, and we also supported the set up of 8 new befriending services. ALONE’s technology platform BConnect was launched in 2017. 10 external organisations began using the Management Information System (MIS). ALONE was the overall national winner of the
HSE Excellence in Healthcare awards.
