ALONE Submission to the Department of Housing Strategy 2025
In March 2025, ALONE submitted input to the Department of Housing’s forthcoming strategy 2025-2028. As both an NGO and Approved Housing Body (AHB), ALONE advocated to the Department regarding the ongoing engagement between NGOs and AHBs.
ALONE outlined five objectives and a range of associated actions which we believe should be considered within the Department’s new statement of strategy. These are explained in further detail throughout this submission. The objectives are:
- Support the delivery of a spectrum of housing options for older people in line with ‘Housing for All’ and the ‘Housing Options for our Ageing Population’ policy statement
- Support the delivery of high-quality homes
- Deliver Capital Private House Grants schemes
- Provide for development of effective AHB policy and statutory regulation
- Provide sufficient access to in-person and telephone services
The submission outlined specific recommendations for Strategic Goal A (providing a framework that ensures sustainable housing that provides a supply of good quality housing to match the needs of all people) and G (providing a framework that assists the department, local authorities and agencies to enhance digital services). ALONE has recommended further objectives for Goal A, including supporting the delivery of a spectrum of housing options for older people, supporting the delivery of high-quality homes, delivering capital private house grant schemes and providing development of effective AHB policy and statutory regulation. For Strategic Goal G, ALONE recommends a new objective to provide sufficient access to in-person and telephone services.
