This report, published by the Alliance of Age Sector NGOs (including ALONE) on behalf of its eight member organisations, shows that Government progress on policy commitments to older people remains inconsistent. It assesses 27 commitments across 17 thematic areas, highlighting three “B” grades for progress on the built environment and safety, alongside eight “D,” two “E” and two “F” grades reflecting failures on pension benchmarking, a loneliness action plan, ageism awareness campaigns and age-friendly housing. Against an over-65 population growing three times faster than the general population, the report makes the case for an Independent Commissioner for Ageing and Older People and a refreshed, resourced Positive Ageing Strategy.
